Nonviolent Communication · For teams
I'm Juan Catalano. I teach teams the NVC framework, help them navigate hard conversations, and mediate where conflict arises. I work based on this principle: how you communicate is how you build.
Navigating hard conversations is not only about clarity and precision.
Understanding and empathy are equally important in the short and the long term. Deep understanding of oneself and others leads to better team dynamics and effectiveness. Nonviolent Communication is a practical method, simple to understand, yet hard to practice. Years of applying it and helping others get unstuck on their own practice have given me pragmatic insights and perspective.
Teaching the framework, 1-1 sessions to help with live conversations and dynamics, or sitting in the room when a conflict is damaging your progress.

Quality time with one person, or a pair of founders, to help navigate specifics while learning NVC by applying it in real-life situations.
When conflict has become a pain point, I help all parties reach mutual understanding and clear agreements through a structured process that ends with requests everyone can say yes to.
Before helping others, I spent sixteen years building startups, running product and engineering teams.
I'm not a therapist, and I didn't study this in a classroom. I initially ran into NVC because of a real concern for improving the way I was giving and receiving feedback. It ended up being the most impactful framework and practice in my skill set as a leader.
We shipped at startup pace, with high ambitions and holding people to a high standard. NVC allowed us to work with smart, opinionated people, staying honest with each other and still wanting to work together the next day.
What I'm proudest of isn't a launch. It's that people on our teams stuck around, and a lot of them are still close years later. That's what I want to help you assemble: teams that build a strong foundation to create great things together.
I work with teams that care about their group's culture as much as they care about output and results. Not as another hype or a shallow benefit, but as a real concern for good balance and long-term relationships.

The first conversation that didn't end in someone leaving the room.
We'd been stuck on the same argument for months. Juan got us to what it was actually about in an afternoon.
